A central circular emblem of alchemical and Rosicrucian significance is shown. The outer border consists of the words Hermetic Philosophy original: "PHILOSOPHIA HERMETICA" in gold lettering. Inside this text is an Ouroboros, which is a green serpent consuming its own tail. This symbol represents eternity and the cyclical nature of the universe. The inner blue field shows a radiant gold sun at the top with rays shining down. Below the sun is a white pelican in her piety. She is piercing her breast to feed her young with her own blood. This is a symbol of sacrifice and the Great Work Great Work: or 'Magnum Opus', the alchemical process of creating the philosopher's stone or achieving spiritual perfection. The pelican sits within a silver crescent moon. At the base is a square pedestal divided by a gold saltire, which is an X-shaped cross. The segments of the pedestal contain three red roses and the letters R and C. These letters refer to the Rosicrucian Rosicrucian: a secret philosophical society of the 17th century that combined mysticism with alchemy and science tradition.
