These were incurred solely for the sake of spreading God's holy truth and providing every qualified reader with what he hoped would prove both entertaining and useful in the greatest and most important of all matters.

The brackets found in the first section original: "piece" appear exactly as they do in the original; they were undoubtedly inserted by the author himself so that his own reflections would not interrupt the flow of his narrative.

If anyone wishes they had instead seen a well-organized and concise original: "compendious" narrative compiled from these memoirs, the translator has no objection to the appropriateness and utility of such a work. He only finds himself obliged to confess frankly that it seemed to exceed his own ability to execute this project in a way that avoided repetition original: "redundancy" while ensuring nothing important was omitted or lost, and that everything appeared in its proper form and order. If any other more capable person who does not know German ever feels inclined to take this on, it will be a unique pleasure to him to have provided that biographer, through these memoirs, with such ample and authentic materials for that purpose in his own mother tongue.
