Martin?
Luther? original: "Luth."
...?
This is the front cover of a historical volume. The binding is executed in a half-vellum stylea method where the spine is covered in durable parchment while the boards are covered in cheaper decorative paper. The decorative marbled paper features a "shell" or "stone" pattern in shades of green, teal, and dark grey. On the spine, there is faint, vertical handwriting—now mostly illegible—that identifies the author as Martin Luther, the central figure of the Protestant Reformation. A small, simple paper label is pasted onto the front board, though its writing has faded completely over time.
