A woodcut illustration depicts Saint Mark the Evangelist. He is shown as an older man wearing a cap, seated at a high, slanted lectern, and writing with a quill pen. Behind him is a winged lion, his traditional symbol. In the background, a window looks out onto a landscape with a sun low on the horizon. The front panel of the lectern features a classical style carving of a nude figure.
