A woodcut illustration depicts the Annunciation. On the left, the Virgin Mary is seated at a lectern covered with a fringed cloth, her hands held to her chest in a gesture of humility or prayer. From the upper left, rays of divine light shine down, accompanied by the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove. On the right stands the Archangel Gabriel, wings spread, holding a flowering lily branch in his left hand and gesturing toward Mary with his right. Small cherub heads emerge from clouds in the center of the scene.
