PREFACE.

Just as the interior and deeper parts of the earth original: interiora & profundiora loca terræ are moistened and made fertile by the internal watercourses from the depths of the salty sea: so also do the Sun and Moon—through rain and dew, along with the influence of other stars—seed the upper part of the earth, or the surface of the earth original: superficiem terræ, from which herbs and trees, foliage and grass, then shoot forth and grow.

Just as the thicker and heavier vapor original: Vapor is driven up from the depths of the earth to provide the Female Seed, from which (with the addition and impression original: Impression; here meaning a formative influence of the upper firmamental influence original: firmamentischen Influenz, acting as the Male Seed) the metals original: metalla and minerals original: mineralia grow in the deeper bowels of the earth original: visceribus terræ profundioribus: so too is the more subtle, thinner, lighter, and more volatile vapor—which swings itself all the way up to the surface of the earth original: usque ad superficiem terræ—precisely that fluid of the earth original: liquor terræ and Female Seed from which (with the addition of the upper astral influence original: astralischen Impression, acting as the Male Seed) trees and herbs grow upon the surface of the earth original: superficie terræ; regarding which, let this be enough.
