They call the representation of the first kind a Ground
Plan original: "Ichnographiam." A scale drawing of the floor plan or "footprint" of a building.; of the second, an Elevation original: "Orthographiam." A drawing showing the front or side of a building without perspective.;
of the third, a Perspective and
Model, or in Latin, a Module or
Model. original: "Scenographiam & Proplasma, Latinè Modulum seu Modellum." A "proplasma" was typically a three-dimensional scale model made of clay or wax. We are pleased to imitate all of these
in this Outline original: "Diatyposi." A Greek term for a sketch or descriptive summary. of ours: first,
to delineate the bare foundations of the Pansophic
Temple original: "Templi Pansophici." Comenius envisions universal knowledge—Pansophy—as a sacred building or temple. alone; by showing what kind of Work
it is that we desire; and why it is now
necessary to undertake thoughts about building it?
This will be our Ground Plan.
Next, we shall explain its Requirements,
both in terms of its Material, and its
External Form: which will represent the upright
face of this Temple, and shall be called the
Elevation.
Finally, we will endeavor to prefigure the
number, order, and use of all its Parts:
which will provide a complete Model
of the Pansophic Temple. But in all
