The front cover of a historical book, bound in dark brown leather with decorative blind-stamped or aged gold-tooled ornamentation. In the center is a large, ornate oval centerpiece containing a coat of arms. The shield within is divided: the upper left quadrant features a lion rampant facing left; the upper right quadrant contains three horizontal bars; the lower half of the shield depicts a single large lion rampant. Above the shield sits a clerical galero: a broad-brimmed hat worn by clergy with cords and tassels hanging down on either side. This signifies that the book belonged to a high-ranking member of the Roman Catholic clergy. The entire coat of arms is enclosed within an oval border of repeating small rectangular or chain-like links. The four corners of the cover are decorated with identical stamped floral sprigs. A wide, continuous border of intricate scrolling foliage and floral arabesques runs around the outer edge of the cover, framed by thin straight lines. The leather shows signs of age and wear, particularly along the edges and corners.
