DEDICATION.

Though strength be lacking, yet the will is to be praised: original: "Ut defint vires, tamen est laudanda voluntas." This is a famous sentiment from the Roman poet Ovid (Ex Ponto 3.4.79), frequently cited in the Early Modern period to argue that a humble gift is made valuable by the sincerity of the giver.
By this intention I judge the Gods to be satisfied:
This ensures that even the poor man may approach the altar acceptably:
And that the sacrificed lamb pleases no less than the slaughtered ox.

Farewell, Most Noble Prince,
and may God keep you safe for a long time,
no less for our sake than for your own.
