they will excuse my errors. Accept, Your Illustrious Lordship V. S. Illustrissima, with your usual kindness, the small gift of these my labors original: "sudori," literally "sweats" that my great soul now offers you. Consent that, against the most heavy debts that I have with you, I may note this small entry to my credit. I ask this of you, not indeed out of a desire I have to un-obligate myself to you, but to taste the sweetness that honored servants feel when, toward their beneficial masters, they exercise the so-praiseworthy virtue of gratitude. May God prosper for a long time the person of Your Illustrious Lordship V. S. Illustrissima, whose hand I kiss with every reverence.
