aThis section features a small rectangular bookplate or stamp with an oval emblem. The central image depicts a white pelican "in its piety"—a traditional symbol of self-sacrifice where the mother bird is shown piercing her own breast to feed her young with her blood. The pelican stands atop a stone altar decorated with four red roses. The background is a vibrant blue with radiating golden rays. Encircling the emblem is the golden inscription: "HERMETIC PHILOSOPHY" original: PHILOSOPHIA HERMETICA. This refers to the philosophical and esoteric tradition based on writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus, often associated with alchemy and ancient wisdom.
Petermann Likely a reference to Julius Heinrich Petermann (1801–1876), a noted German Orientalist, or a previous owner of the manuscript.
