"And I will make of you a great nation..." and it concludes, "and you shall be a blessing." Genesis 12:2
What is the meaning of "and you shall be a blessing"? It means: Through you, I serve
the Shekhinah Shekhinah|The Divine Presence, the feminine aspect of God that dwells among humanity., which is the "Pool" The Hebrew words for "blessing" (Berakhah) and "pool" (Berikhah) share the same root letters.. She is the Tenth Sefirah Sefirah|One of the ten divine attributes or emanations in Kabbalah., which receives an overflow of light from the nine
shining mirrors Mirrors|Hebrew: aspaklariaot, derived from the Latin specularia. These are the lenses or mirrors through which prophets perceive divine truth.. And even though
He handed over the "Pool" to Abraham, He did not hand over the "Gate" to him.
Similarly for Isaac, because he was associated with the refuse
of Ishmael and Esau Meaning that because they produced "impure" descendants, they could not fully possess the holy Gate.. However, Jacob, who had
no refuse in him, was given the "Gate," as we have explained.
And regarding what the Blessed Lord said to Abraham, "And in you all
the families of the earth shall be blessed," Genesis 12:3 it is all explained by the fact
that the seventy nations are attached to Abraham and Isaac
by the principle of "grafting" and "interweaving" The Hebrew word v'nivrekhu ("shall be blessed") is here linked to the agricultural term for grafting a vine.. Were it not for Abraham
and Isaac, the seventy nations would have no attachment to the Divine Chariot.
And this is the secret of the seventy bulls offered during the Festival Reference to the seventy bulls sacrificed during the holiday of Sukkot, traditionally thought to represent the seventy nations of the world..
you have understood this, know that the Gate
called Righteousness Hebrew: Tzedek, a name for the tenth Sefirah., even though
Abraham is the root of that Sefirah, he did not inherit the
Gate until Jacob arrived. And concerning this Gate,
it is said regarding Abraham: "Who raised up righteousness from the east,
calling it to his feet?" Isaiah 41:2 And this is the secret of the "Gates of Righteousness."
that from the time Jacob understood the Gate
and took the key, no
creature in the world may enter toward the Blessed Lord
except through Jacob and his sons—meaning, until they convert
and are circumcised and enter under the wings of the Shekhinah.
And through that gate they enter the "Gates of Righteousness," and because of this,
true converts are called "Converts of Righteousness" Hebrew: Gerei Tzedek. The author suggests converts are named after this specific divine Gate..
That is to say, the converts enter the Palace of the Blessed Lord
through the Gate of Righteousness. Observe this principle: because
Abraham is the root of the Sefirah of Righteousness,
all converts are called by his name, "Converts of Righteousness." And the secret
of "In you they shall be blessed" is that they are literally grafted in.
you have understood this, we must illuminate
a path before you regarding the secret of this attribute
called "The Gate for the Lord" Psalm 118:20. We say that no
man is worthy to enter through this Gate as a permanent resident,
except for a temporary entrance to come in and go out.
But one may not remain inside as a permanent dweller—not even
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets were not privileged
to remain inside permanently, but rather entered and exited.
No one remained as a permanent dweller before Him through
this Gate except for Moses our Teacher, peace be upon him, alone.
And regarding this, it is said: "Go, say to them: Return to
your tents. But as for you, stand here with Me." Deuteronomy 5:27-28 And this is
what the Sages meant when they said: "All the prophets looked through
a dim mirror, but Moses looked
through a clear mirror." A famous Talmudic distinction (Yebamot 49b) between the clarity of Moses' prophecy versus other prophets. The reason is because
he entered inside this Gate. He entered
with permission and established his dwelling there. And the secret is: "And
Moses was not able to come into the Tent of Meeting because the
cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the Tabernacle." Exodus 40:35
Then the Blessed Lord called to him and he entered with permission. And regarding
this, it is said: "And He called to Moses, and the Lord spoke to him
from the Tent of Meeting," Leviticus 1:1 and it is written, "But as for you, stand here with Me."
And once he established his dwelling there, he never ceased. And regarding this
it is said: "Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth." Song of Songs 1:2 Because
Moses entered inside the Gate and established his
dwelling there, he was always seeing through the
clear mirror. But the rest of the prophets, whose
dwellings were not permanent inside the Gate, even
at the time they were looking, they were looking from outside the Gatehouse. They
saw from behind the tenth partition, which is
the "dim mirror." And this is the secret of:
"Hear now My words: If there be a prophet among you..." and so on.
"Not so My servant Moses; in all My house he is trusted." Numbers 12:6-8
"In all My house" literally means he entered and established his dwelling
inside the Gate. Thus he was found trusted with all
the King's property, which are the chambers called the King's
house; "In all My house he is trusted."
you have understood this, know that this
attribute called the Gates of
Righteousness, which Jacob inherited—he handed over all
its keys into the hands of his sons. And this Gate
has thirteen keys: twelve
for the twelve chambers, and the inner key
which completes the thirteen—he handed that one
to Levi. And this is the secret of the Priestly Blessing, for from there
the blessings flow.
