A circular emblem is centered on a white rectangular slip of paper pasted to the page. The emblem features an oval with a golden border containing the text Hermetic Philosophy original: "PHILOSOPHIA HERMETICA". An Ouroboros, a serpent eating its own tail representing eternity, forms the top of the inner frame. Inside the oval, a white pelican is depicted "in her piety," feeding her young with blood from her breast. This is a traditional Christian and alchemical symbol of self-sacrifice and the "Great Work." She is perched upon a silver crescent moon, which in turn rests on a blue cubic altar. The face of the cube is decorated with a golden cross and four red roses, forming a Rosy Cross. From the top, a golden sun radiates rays downward. The background of the scene is dark blue.
