Return now to your beloved Calw,
And live your life there once again,
And rejoice in the noble souls you find.
You will surely still find the Dörtenbachs, The Dörtenbachs were a prominent family in Calw closely associated with the town's industry and Andreae’s reforms.
Perhaps also Rüelin, perhaps the Demmlers,
If not by name, then by their deeds,
Wholly worthy of your love, as you are of theirs!
Also, your favorite work still flourishes,
The Dyers' Foundation, original: "Färberstift"; this refers to the "Calwer Färberkasse," a social welfare foundation established by Andreae in 1639 to support dyers and their families. It is one of the oldest social insurance systems in Germany. dedicated to that noble aim,
To sustain pious poverty and talent.
May your spirit hover over the busy banks of the Nagold, The Nagold is the river that flows through the center of Calw.
To me also held dear through sisters, brothers-in-law, and a brother,
And dear through many a man of integrity! original: "Bidermann"; a traditional German term for an upright, honest, and respectable citizen.
