A detailed circular diagram of the Ptolemaic/Geocentric macrocosm. At the center is a terrestrial globe depicting land, sea, and two figures representing Adam and Eve. Surrounding the Earth are concentric rings representing the elements and the celestial spheres:
1. The inner rings show water, air, and fire.
2. The planetary spheres follow, each marked with its astrological symbol: Moon (☽), Mercury (☿), Venus (♀), the Sun (represented by a face and ☉), Mars (♂), Jupiter (♃), and Saturn (♄).
3. A ring of fixed stars (zodiacal/stellar region).
4. An outer expansive ring of divine fire or empyrean light, populated with numerous angelic faces or cherubim.
5. At the apex of the circle, a radiant sun emits light, containing a dove symbolizing the Holy Spirit.
The entire circular cosmos is set against a backdrop of dark, heavy clouds that frame the corners of the plate.
The term "Macrocosm" Macrocosmus: the "Great World" or the universe as a whole is used here to contrast with the "Microcosm," which refers to the human being as a miniature reflection of the universe.
