Since several theologians of our Society The Society of Jesus, commonly known as the Jesuits. have reviewed the first volume of the Art of Combination by Father Athanasius Kircher, a priest of our same Society, and have certified that it may be published, we grant the authority for it to be printed, if it should so please those to whom it pertains. In witness whereof, we give these letters signed by our hand and secured with our seal. Rome, September 1, 1665.
Since several theologians of our Society have reviewed the second part of the Art of Combination by Father Athanasius Kircher, a priest of our same Society, and have certified that it may be brought to light original: "in Lucem edi," a common Latin idiom for publication., we grant permission for it to be printed, if it should so seem fit to those to whom it pertains.
