After the account of Noah’s Ark and the mournful history of the Deluge original: "Catacly-smi", Moses, the servant of God, first narrates in order the multiplication of mortals through the three sons of Noah—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—carried out over a span of one hundred years; then follows the construction of the City and the Tower, memorable through all ages, which is succeeded by the confusion of tongues and the beginning of the migration of nations, as God the Best and Greatest took vengeance upon the untamed pride and stubbornness of the sons of men. All these things Moses, in Genesis chapter 11, although very briefly, yet most distinctly and with an exact narration of the events that occurred in this difficult business over the course of time, has beautifully set forth through five circumstances. Of these, the First is: who specifically were those primeval mortals who lived in the world at that time, what did they do, and what exactly moved them to begin their migration? The Second: what end in their migration impelled them to erect the Tower of insane mass? The Third: to what extent of height, according to their plan, was the Tower supposed to reach? The Fourth: what end and goal did they have fixed for themselves in a building of such great mass? Finally, the Fifth: how did they cease from further pursuing the work—begun with such rash daring—due to the displeasure and punishment of the Divine Will original: "Divini Numinis" through the confusion of tongues; and how, indeed, perplexed by the confusion of tongues, did they at last begin their migration into all regions of the world? All these things will be demonstrated as extensively as possible in the context of this work. May Divine goodness assist our endeavors, so that we may pursue the chosen theme with the desired success for His sole glory.
