The first case in which I am asked to express my judgment is this: Whether it is possible for the Devil to deceive the imaginations of bewitched persons, and to cause them to believe that an innocent—indeed, even a pious—person is tormenting them, when the Devil himself is doing it? Or, whether Satan may appear in the form of an innocent and pious person, as well as a guilty original: "nocent"; meaning harmful or guilty and wicked person, to afflict those who suffer by diabolical harassment?
