in its own number and order, within the same column: and whichever [vowel] falls upon the first letter of the name, that one shall be assigned to it. You will find the following vowels, however, by taking the distance from the preceding letter to the following one: and so on in sequence, according to the succession of the Alphabet. And the Number of that distance is counted from the beginning of its own column: and where it falls, there is the part of the vowel sought. From there, therefore, cast out the vowels, as we said above, and those which fall upon their own letters should be assigned to them. If, however, any vowel falls upon another vowel, the former gives way to the latter. And understand this to apply to Good Spirits original: "Bonis"; referring to benevolent celestial intelligences only. In the case of evil ones, however, you should proceed by a similar path: except that you must perform the calculations in a contrary and reversed order, against the succession of the Alphabet, and against the order of the Columns, namely by ascending.

The Name of the Good Genius term: Genius; a guardian spirit or guiding intelligence assigned to an individual at birth of every man, which we taught how to find in the third book of Occult Philosophy, according to that method, is of no small authority, nor of modest foundation. But now we shall give you certain other methods, resting upon no vain reasons. And of these, one is by taking, in the figure
