Ja'far ibn Muhammad (Abu Ma'shar) al-Balkhi. Abu Ma'shar (787–886 AD) was a leading Persian astronomer and philosopher in the Abbasid court in Baghdad, known in the West as Albumasar.

Four large books are scattered on the ground around his feet. The background shows a walled city with multiple towers, rugged mountains, and a body of water. The sky is filled with celestial symbols: on the left, a crescent moon with a human face and stars; on the right, a radiant sun with a human face; and several stars are scattered across the top. 1506\. This date indicates the printing of this specific edition, likely the Venice edition by Melchior Sessa.

Albumasar The Latinized name for Abu Ma'shar, whose work "Introductorium in Astronomiam" was a primary source for medieval European understanding of both astronomy and astrology.
