e. The property of Chintámani Josí, of Gwalior: the latter part only: not available before nearly the whole work was in type: the best MS.Abbreviation for Manuscript. to which I have had access.

The original of part of the first chapter of the Súrya-siddhántaA foundational Sanskrit treatise on Indian astronomy, literally "The Sun's Treatise.", and of all the eighth, has already been printed, together with a French interpretation, in the Abbé J. M. F. Guerin’s Indian Astronomy original: "Astronomie Indienne", published in Paris in 1847. A translation, in our own language, of the commencement of the work will be found in the Asiatic Journal for the months of May and June, 1817.
I have prepared an English version of a considerable share of the Súrya-siddhánta; and it was my intention to carry the undertaking to an end. Ill health and other circumstances compel me, however, to abandon the design, probably not to be resumed.
