...is found. The almanac of Bapudev Shastri Bapudev Shastri (1821–1900) was a renowned mathematician and astronomer from Varanasi is more accurate than all other almanacs. From examining it, it is known that in the current year, the precession of the equinoxes Ayanamsha: the longitudinal difference between the tropical and sidereal zodiacs is progressing at 22 degrees, 9 minutes, and 24 seconds. Now, by fixing the annual motion of the equinox Kranti-pata: the intersection of the ecliptic and the celestial equator at 50.1 seconds and performing the calculation, it is known that Varahamihiracharya lived approximately 1592 years before the present time. To support this conclusion, I am publishing the celestial observation results of the famous astronomers Hipparchus of Egypt and England.
Hipparchus wrote that in his time, the star Chitra Spica was 6 degrees west of the vernal equinox point, and Mr. Herschel William Herschel, the British astronomer has written that at the beginning of 1750 AD, the said star had advanced 20 degrees and 24 minutes east of the equinox. Therefore, from the time of Hipparchus to the time of Herschel, the equinox point has advanced 26 degrees and 24 minutes eastward. Thus, according to precise mathematics, it is known that Hipparchus observed the sky 1897 years before Herschel, which is before 147 BC. In Hipparchus's time, the star Chitra was located at 174 degrees of the zodiac. However, in the time of Varaha and the author of the Surya Siddhanta, it had advanced 6 degrees eastward; that is, the equinox and the star Chitra were at the same position in the zodiac, or at 180 degrees. Therefore, by fixing the annual motion of the precession at 50.1 seconds and calculating, it is known that the author of the Surya Siddhanta and Varaha were born 431 years after Hipparchus, which is in 284 AD. It has already been stated that the author of the Parashari published the positions of the seasons 1676 years before Varaha; therefore, he lived 1392 years before the Christian Era.
Now it is revealed that Aditya-das did not commission the writing of the Surya Siddhanta. Varahamihiracharya has written his father's name as Aditya-das in the Varahi Samhita and the Brihat Jataka. At the end of the Brihat Jataka, there is this verse:
The son of Aditya-das, having obtained knowledge from him,
In the village of Kapittha, having received the grace of the Sun God,
Varahamihira of Avanti, having thoroughly studied the teachings of the Sages,
Composed this beautiful work on Horoscopy. (9)
With a mind graced by bowing at the feet of the Sun, the Sages, and the Guru,
This scripture was compiled; salutations to the ancient authors!
