Chapter 1 - Including the Vernacular Commentary

The 7th of the dark fortnight of Ashadha, the 4th of Phalguna, the 3rd of Jyeshtha, and the 13th of Magha, along with the 6th of the bright fortnight, are considered "void" Sanskrit: Shunya. These are also known as the "Burned Months" Sanskrit: Masa-dagdha; days that are 'consumed' and rendered powerless for good works. || 10 ||

Similarly, the following are rejected even if the lunar mansion is otherwise auspicious: Ashlesha on the 12th, and Uttarashadha on the 1st. || 11 ||

Anuradha on the 2nd, Magha on the 5th.

The three Uttaras on the 3rd, and Rohini on the 11th. || 12 ||

Swati and Chitra on the 13th, Hasta and Mula on the 7th.

Krittika on the 9th, Purva Bhadrapada on the 8th, and Rohini on the 6th. || 13 ||

The text now describes the flaws arising from the relationship between the lunar date Tithi: a lunar day and the lunar mansion Nakshatra: one of the 27 sectors of the sky the moon passes through. One should avoid auspicious works on: the 12th day if the moon is in Ashlesha; the 1st day in Uttarashadha; the 2nd in Anuradha; the 3rd in any of the three "Uttara" mansions Uttara Phalguni, Uttarashadha, or Uttara Bhadrapada; the 11th in Rohini; the 13th in Swati or Chitra; the 7th in Hasta or Mula; the 9th in Krittika; the 8th in Purva Bhadrapada; and the 5th in Magha. || 11 || 12 || 13 ||

( Anushtup Meter ) A poetic meter consisting of four quarters of eight syllables each Rohini and Ashwini; Chitra and Swati; Uttarashadha and Pushya; Purva Phalguni and Dhanishtha. || 14 ||

Uttarashadha and Shravana; Shatabhisha and Revati; Purva Bhadrapada; Krittika and Magha; Chitra and Vishakha.

Ardra, Ashwini, and Hasta; Shravana and Mula; Bharani and Jyeshtha.

In the months starting from Chaitra, these are called "Void Stars," and they cause the destruction of wealth. || 15 ||

In the month of Chaitra: Rohini and Ashwini; in Vaishakha: Chitra and Swati; in Jyeshtha: Uttarashadha and Pushya; in Ashadha: Purva Phalguni and Dhanishtha; in Shravana: Uttarashadha and Shravana; in Bhadrapada: Shatabhisha and Revati; in Ashvina: Purva Bhadrapada; in Kartika: Krittika and Magha; in Margashirsha: Chitra and Vishakha; in Pausha: Ardra, Ashwini, and Hasta; in Magha: Shravana and Mula; and in Phalguna: Bharani and Jyeshtha are "Void Mansions." Performing auspicious deeds during these times leads to the loss of wealth and resources. || 14 || 15 ||

( Anushtup Meter ) Aquarius, Pisces, Taurus, Gemini, Aries, Virgo, Scorpio, Libra,

Sagittarius, Cancer, Capricorn, and Leo are the "Void Signs" starting from Chaitra. || 16 ||

Regarding "Void Zodiac Signs" Sanskrit: Shunya Rashi: in Chaitra, Aquarius; in Vaishakha, Pisces; in Jyeshtha, Taurus; in Ashadha, Gemini; in Shravana, Aries; in Bhadrapada, Virgo; in Ashvina, Scorpio; in Kartika, Libra; in Margashirsha, Sagittarius; in Pausha, Cancer; in Magha, Capricorn; and in Phalguna, Leo are the void signs. They produce the same negative results as mentioned previously. || 16 ||
