Upajati meter -- Capricorn has the face of a deer, seeks wealth, rules the southern quarter, is feminine, tawny, and harsh. It dwells on auspicious ground and is cold in nature. It has few offspring, is associated with the wind, and is strong at night. Its first half is four-footed, it rises unevenly, and belongs to the merchant class. || 11 ||

The form is like a crocodile but with the face of a deer original: "मृगवक्त्रः" (mṛgavaktraḥ). It is of a movable nature and the earth element. It possesses half-voice referring to its acoustic strength in astrology, is the lord of the southern direction, a feminine sign, tawny in color, and has a dry body. It is gentle, a land-dweller, cold by nature, has little contact with women, and few offspring. It is of the air element The Sanskrit verse mentions earth, while the commentary notes air; in standard astrology, Capricorn is Earth, strong at night, the first half is a four-footed animal and the second half is a water-dweller. It is footless in its second half, an uneven sign, and of the Merchant Vaishya caste. These are the characteristics of Capricorn. || 11 ||

Upajati meter -- Aquarius is footless, a man, strong in the middle of the day, and stable. It is variegated, dwells in the forest, and is of the air. It is smooth, hot, has broken voice, and balanced humors. It is of the servant class, rules the west, and rises unevenly. || 12 ||

Aquarius has the shape of a water-pot. It is footless, masculine, strong during the day, has little contact with women, and few children. It is of a fixed nature, variegated in color, a forest-dweller, and of the air element. It has a smooth body, a heated temperament, half-voice, and balanced humors referring to the three Ayurvedic humors: wind, bile, and phlegm. It is of the Servant Shudra caste, lord of the western direction, an uneven sign, and has firm limbs. These are the characteristics of Aquarius. || 12 ||

Upajati meter -- Pisces is footless, feminine, of phlegm and water, and strong at night. It is silent, brownish-tawny, of dual nature, and dwells in water. It is smooth, very fond of company, and prolific. It is of the priestly class, auspicious, rules the north, and rises unevenly. || 13 ||

The shape of the sign Pisces is two fish with the tail of one at the mouth of the other. It is a feminine sign, of phlegmatic temperament, the water element, and strong at night. It is without sound, of a tawny-brown color, and of a dual nature the first half acts as a fixed sign, the second half as a movable sign. It is a water-dweller with a smooth body, very fond of female company, has many offspring, and is of the Priestly Brahmin caste. It is an auspicious sign, lord of the northern direction, and an even sign. These are its characteristics. || 13 ||

Upajati meter -- Friendship exists between the groups of Earth and Water, and between Fire and Air; otherwise, there is enmity. The end of Sagittarius is known to be four-footed, and the end of Capricorn is a water-dweller. || 14 ||
