Those who know the science astrologers say that the destruction of a house's significance occurs when it is not aspected by benefics; however, if the house is aspected by auspicious planets, it brings happiness. || 4 || If the 1st, 5th, 9th the trines, 4th, 7th, or 10th houses are occupied by benefic planets, are free from the sight of malefic planets, and are joined by the lord of that house without any malefic influence, then the sages declare the full prosperity and auspiciousness of those houses. If the opposite conditions exist, destruction occurs. If there is a mixture of influences, the results for the body 1st house and other houses will be mixed. || 5 ||
If the lord of a house is placed in a house of destruction the 6th, 8th, or 12th houses, or is combust rendered invisible by the rays of the Sun, or is in a debilitated or inimical sign, and is neither joined nor aspected by benefics, the sages declare the total destruction of that house's significance. Even if planets occupy that house, they will not yield fruit in such a state. This applies to the body and all other houses in order. || 6 ||
One should predict the acquisition of wealth based on the strength of the Ascendant and the Moon. Wealth may come from the father, mother, enemies, friends, or brothers through the planets situated in the 10th house the house of profession. Or it may come from servants. Among the Sun, the Ascendant, and the Moon, whoever is strongest determines the source. Those learned in this science say that one's livelihood is determined by the lord of the Navamsha a 1/9th divisional chart in which the lord of the 10th house is placed. || 7 ||
If that Navamsha lord is the Sun, the person lives by medicine, gold, liquids, trade, pearls, or perhaps by deceiving others. They might also work as a messenger or a traveler. || 8 || Note: Verse 8 and 9 both mention the Sun's portion, likely referring to different planetary strengths or variations in the tradition.
Through the teaching of sacred chants Mantras, the practice of alchemy Rasavada, or through entertainment and the study of all scriptures and ancient histories Puranas, or by the path of spiritual instruction, one becomes honored by kings and makes a living, if the Sun is the lord of that portion. || 9 ||
Through the buying and selling of water-born products, through wells, or the playing of the drum Mridanga and other musical instruments; or through the patronage of royal women, or the sale of clothes, one earns a living if the Sun or Moon, depending on the specific commentary tradition rules the portion. || 10 ||
Through disputes over metals, through wounds received in battle, through the manipulation of fire, or through engaging in quarrels, one lives by the path of courage or even through the life of a thief, if the son of the Earth Mars rules the portion. || 11 || Through crafts, arts, or poetry—
