Those who have mastered the various scriptures state that a four-footed quadruped: chatuṣpada is born when the rising sign is of a non-human species original: "viyonī", referring to animal or non-human births. || 51 || If a bird-shaped decan: dṛkāṇa A 10-degree subdivision of a zodiac sign is rising and is aspected by a powerful planet, or if the rising sign is a moveable sign, or if the nine-fold division: navāṃśa belongs to Mercury, a non-human birth occurs. || 52 ||
If the rising sign is aspected by Venus, a cow is born; if by Saturn, a buffalo. If the rising sign is associated with or aspected by Rahu the North Node of the Moon or Ketu the South Node, a goat or sheep is born; and by other planets, other types of animals are produced. || 53 ||
When the lord of the 6th house is in a sign owned by Mercury in the ascendant, and the lord of the ascendant is also in a sign of Mercury, the person born will be a hermaphrodite: napuṃsaka possessing female characteristics. Through the combination of Saturn and Mars, a male eunuch is born. || 54 ||
If the Moon and the Sun aspect each other, or if Mercury and Saturn are in even and odd signs respectively; or if Saturn in an odd sign aspects the Sun in an even sign; || 55 || or if the Moon is in an odd ascendant and is aspected by Mars in an even sign; or if Mercury and the Moon are in even and odd signs and are aspected by Mars from the ascendant or from the Moon; || 56 || these are the six "neuter combinations" original: "klībayogāḥ" described by the great sages learned in many scriptures. Furthermore, if the lord of the ascendant is joined with Mercury and is not aspected by any benefic planets, one becomes a eunuch. || 57 ||
If the lords of the 10th and 9th houses are in "bad houses" the 6th, 8th, or 12th houses while the lord of the ascendant is strong, the person is born without the performance of the parting of the hair: sīmantakarma A traditional Hindu prenatal rite of passage performed for the mother's well-being; such a person is considered "primary" or base in that regard. || 58 ||
If a malefic planet is in the 11th house or if the lord of that house is malefic, the person is likewise considered base. If Leo is rising, the house has two doors; if Virgo is rising, even with a planet in its "fall" original: "nīcagraha", a planet in its weakest zodiacal position, the birth is as described. || 59 ||
The direction of the door of the birth-chamber is said to be indicated by the lord of the nine-fold division: navāṃśa or by the sign and decan of the ascendant. Alternatively, the door is indicated by the lord of the ascendant or by powerful planets situated in the cardinal houses: kendra. || 60 ||
