Until today, various Sanskrit and vernacular texts regarding the science of astronomy and astrology original: "Jyotish Shastra" have been printed and circulated among the people. However, among them, no text has been observed that clearly explains the results of the planets placed in the birth chart original: "Lagna Kundali" across the twelve houses, in accordance with the principles of the entire branch of horoscopic astrology original: "Hora Skandha" and house-division original: "Bhava Chalita". It is a widely held belief that events occur exactly according to whether the planets were favorable or unfavorable at the time of birth. All people desire to understand these future results with little effort through the birth chart. However, the branch of astrology containing this subject is difficult; observing it and predicting or understanding future results is not a task for an ordinary scholar. Regarding the qualities such a person must possess, a verse original: "Shloka" has been stated in the Jataka Bharanam A classical Sanskrit treatise on natal astrology.
One who has reached the opposite shore of the vast ocean of horoscopic astrology, who is profoundly proficient in both arithmetic and algebra original: "Patya" and "Bija", and who is skilled in the science of spheres astronomy/cosmography—he alone is capable of declaring the fruits of destiny. || 1 ||
Only that learned astrologer original: "Joshi" who has mastered the vast branch of horoscopic astrology, understands all forms of mathematics including algebra, and is skilled in the science of the celestial spheres, will be capable of predicting results.
As described in the verse above, in this current age original: "Manvantara", learned astrologers are scarce, yet the desire to know the future is held by many. For this reason, a concise and delightful Sanskrit work was found, composed in the Bhujanga Prayata meter A poetic meter characterized by a "snake-like" rhythmic movement. This work was prepared after thorough consideration and logical reasoning by a famous great scholar named Narayan Bhatt, of the Bhatt family from the holy city of Kashi Modern-day Varanasi, who extracted the essential essence of the horoscopic branch of astrology to bring joy to scholars and to help in understanding future results.
