This work is useful for the public, and because the predictions given in it are mostly found to be accurate, it is now published with the original verses accompanied by a simple Marathi original: "Prakrit," referring here to the vernacular Marathi language commentary. The author humbly asks the learned for forgiveness regarding any errors that may have occurred due to slips of the pen or mistakes in translation.
This book is the essence of the entire branch of Horoscopy Hora-skandha: the branch of astrology dealing with individual birth charts and predictions within the science of astronomy and astrology Jyotish-shastra. To understand the theorems and experiences contained herein, the time of birth must be calculated with extreme precision.
To observe the results, one must first construct a birth-chart Janma-lagna Kundali. This is done by taking the Ascendant Lagna—the zodiac sign rising on the horizon—at the specific desired time of birth, based on the daily motion of the sun. Regarding how to arrange this chart, here is a verse from the Jatakabharana A classic 15th-century Sanskrit text on natal astrology:
Verse: Divide a beautiful circle into twelve parts. Within these, place the twelve zodiac signs starting from the Ascendant, following the sequence toward the left. Then, the planets should be clearly marked in the signs where they are situated. From these positions, a wise person should announce the good or bad results according to the traditional teachings of Horoscopy. || 1 ||
Commentary. One should draw a diagram such that it contains twelve compartments. In such a beautiful diagram, the Ascendant (1) should be placed in the center. The remaining eleven signs should then be placed following the left-hand direction. Afterward, whichever planet is in a particular sign should be written in that sign's compartment.
