Having thoroughly churned the four hundred thousand verses of the Great Awakening of Light original: "Jyotirmāhabodha," likely referring to a vast compendium of astronomical knowledge for the delight of the learned, I now compose this work. It is beautiful in its logic, concise in its wording, and written in the "Gait of the Serpent" meter original: "Bhujangaprayāta," a poetic meter characterized by a rhythmic, curving flow. ॥3॥
Commentary — The author states that after researching four hundred thousand texts of the Horā section the branch of Jyotish dealing with predictive astrology of the Science of Light Jyotish: the traditional Indian system of astronomy and astrology, and after fully considering them, he is creating this work titled Chamatkāra Chintāmaṇi The "Wish-fulfilling Gem of Wonders". He intends it to be logically pleasing, concise in language, delightful to scholars, and composed in the Bhujangaprayāta poetic meter.
What is the use of planets placed in the sky if one does not know their movements? What is the use of the lords of the planets if their positions in the eight-fold divisions are not calculated? What is the purpose of a clarity that lacks a foundation? It is only through the results the actual lived effects that the truth is understood, not by mere positions. ॥4॥
Commentary — If one does not understand the positions and movements of the planets in the sky, and fails to calculate the precise "clear" mathematically corrected planetary positions at the moment of birth, and fails to arrange the twelve houses the divisions of the zodiac relative to the horizon and the dynamic birth chart Kundali: a horoscope or birth chart according to the rules—then what is the basis for predicting the results of the planets? People only care about actual experience and results. Without following the prescribed methods to ensure accuracy, that experience will not be validated. Therefore, I speak of the fruits of these planets in accordance with those methods.
Having thus stated the vow and the methodology of the book, I shall now speak of the results of each planet in the twelve houses.
