Thus you do not labor for yourselves— — original: Sic vos non vobis— —. — This phrase refers to the rest of the Virgil poem: "Thus you oxen bear the plow, but not for yourselves; thus you bees make honey, but not for yourselves," etc. Hooke likely uses this to hint at a dispute over scientific priority or stolen ideas..
