The necessary distractions original: "avocations" of business, and the urgent demands of some for the speedy publication of my critical remarks original: "Animadversions," specifically referring to his 1674 work "Animadversions on the first part of the Machina Coelestis.", caused me to finish them at the eleventh sheet, without stopping to explain original: "Explicate" several things which I intended to include with them. But having now found a little more free time, both for drawing original: "Delineation" and description, to further clarify what I have said, I shall make it my third attempt to explain:

First, A helioscope From the Greek 'helios' (sun) and 'skopein' (to look); an instrument for observing the sun without harming the eyes. to look upon the body of the sun, without any harm to the observer's eye.
