As it is written 1 Samuel 14:32 "And the people flew upon the spoil," and it is like a sin-offering, like the royalty of the altars. Why did they merit this? Because they guarded themselves in the Egyptian exile, and after they were purified, they came adorned and crowned like a king in their ascents, awakening within them fruitfulness and multiplication Hebrew: Piryah ve-Rivyah; the first commandment to procreate, here used mystically. The plague of the firstborn, as it is written Exodus 12:41 "And all the hosts of the Lord went out," etc. And it is written Psalms 122:4 "Whither the tribes went up, even the tribes of the Lord, as a testimony unto Israel," truly a testimony for Israel. "And these are the names of the children of Israel." The tribes of the children of Israel. Mentioning the children of Israel—one might say, is it not written "and with signs they are quickly from my lamps"? This is certainly one branch, and the verse publicizes it as it is written, "and he is the son of Chish from Kariosas," see Shelomith the daughter of Dibri of the tribe of Dan. Fruitfulness and multiplication, as it is written Exodus 1:7 "And the children of Israel were fruitful and increased abundantly," etc. And from all this they guarded themselves; Israel, like Israel ascended, etc. Israel sufficed, and then: "And these are the names of the children of Israel," etc.
Rabbi Eleazar and Rabbi Yose were walking on the road. While they were walking, Rabbi Eleazar said to Rabbi Yose: "Open your mouth and let your words shine forth." He said to him: "It is pleasing before my master that I have observed one matter that is difficult for me. I heard from the Holy Assembly The circle of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai that he said: 'And these are the names of the children of Israel'—these are certainly all those hosts and camps that descended to go down with Jacob, as it is written 'with Jacob.' What is the meaning of what is written: each man and his household came? He said to him: "It is certainly so. But come and see: everyone who receives from below, his 'house' is the vessel for that which he gives, and regarding this, 'each man and his household came.'"
Rabbi Eleazar opened and said: 1 Kings 9:1 "And it came to pass, when Solomon had finished building the house of the Lord, and the king’s house," etc. Since it says "the house of the Lord," why does it then say "and the king’s house"? Because of Solomon it was said thus. Rather, "the house of the Lord" refers to the Holy Temple Beit Ha-Mikdash. "And the king’s house" refers to the Holy of Holies Kodesh Ha-Kodashim. The "House of the Lord" which is the Temple refers to the courtyards, the chambers, and the outer areas; this is called the House of the Lord. The "King’s House" is the Holy of Holies, which is the innermost of all. "The King," mentioned plainly, refers to the Supernal King Melech Ila'ah; a high level of Divine emanation, for the Supernal King is feminine in relation to the Supernal Point which is hidden from all. And even though it is feminine [in that context], it is masculine in relation to the lower king. And because of this, everything follows this pattern, and regarding the repairs of the spirit, it is written: "Each man and his household came."
Rabbi Eleazar opened and said: Song of Songs 4:12 "A garden locked is my sister, my bride; a spring locked, a fountain sealed." "A garden locked"—this is the Assembly of Israel Knesset Yisrael; the mystical personification of the Jewish people and the Shekhinah, which is a locked garden. For Rabbi Eleazar said: Just as this garden needs guarding and cleaning, so the Assembly of Israel needs guarding and watering and the tending of a garden and the tending of a vineyard. Just as this vineyard needs guarding and watering and digging, so too Israel, as it is written Isaiah 5:7 "For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel." And it is written Isaiah 5:2 "And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof," etc.
Mishnah: Rabbi Shimon said: These upper gates see the flowing of the Holy Chariot Rechiva Kadisha; the Divine vehicle in Ezekiel's vision. They travel in their journeys and the sound of song reaches the kings; it enters the heart, ascending and descending, moving like dew that saves thousands and tens of thousands of times. They open the song from below to above like the pleasantness of the voice of those who stand. They gather in an assembly for the rain of the right side, looking out and observing thousands of "masters of eyes" Angelic beings who see and yet do not see. They stand in their positions. Two other sides were appointed (variant: prepared) because of them. And for the rain of the left side, they see and observe thousands. They wait for the nursing, weeping and wailing; the house of their resting place is moved. They open with a blessing and conclude with purity. They weep because of them, and the blessing sits, and the sapphires are opened. At the time of the hour, the Master of Judgment divides what is before them and sits on the Throne of Judgment, and the song is silenced... the masters of eyes see the right side and the depths...
