The qualities of the strengths of the stars in themselves, as has been experienced by the ancients, are these: the seasons of the year are said to be four: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. ¶ In the time of Spring, humidity is stronger; for the cold of winter having passed, heat begins to lead to the tempering of the humors which were congealed because of the winter cold. But in the summer time, because of the approach of the sun to the zenith of our heads, heat prevails. In the autumnal time, dryness conquers; for the heat of the passed summer has dried out the humidity. In the winter time, however, because of the removal of the sun from the place of the zenith of our heads, cold overcomes. ¶ For which reason, since the circle of signs The Zodiac lacks a natural beginning, just as any circle does, they placed the beginning of it at the sign of the Vernal Equinox, which is Aries; from that point they took the beginning from which the humid complexion grows; so also in the first part of the years of the life of living beings, there is a time in which their complexion exists as more humid. And in the same order they established the other seasons. ¶ In the complexion of all living beings, humidity prevails in the first years.
