The constant positions original: dhruva, fixed positions at a specific epoch in signs and degrees are: Sun 0|1|49|11; Moon 0|3|46|11; Moon’s Apogee the point where the moon is farthest from Earth 9|2|49|0; Rahu the North Lunar Node 7|2|50|0; Mars 11|29|32|0; Mercury’s Anomaly original: kendra, the angular distance used to calculate planetary position 4|3|27|0; Jupiter 0|26|18|0; Venus’s Anomaly 11|14|2|0; and Saturn 7|19|42|0. In the following verse, I describe the additive constants original: kshepaka, values added to the mean motion to find the position at the start of the era. — 6-7
| Sun | Moon | M. Apo. | Rahu | Mars | Mer. Anom. | Jup. | Ven. Anom. | Sat. |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sign 0 | 0 | 9 | 7 | 11 | 4 | 0 | 11 | 7 |
| Deg. 1 | 3 | 2 | 2 | 29 | 3 | 26 | 14 | 19 |
| Min. 49 | 46 | 49 | 50 | 32 | 27 | 18 | 2 | 42 |
| Sec. 11 | 11 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Eleven, nineteen, and forty-one for the Sun; for the Moon, eleven, nineteen, and six.
For the Apogee: five, seventeen, and thirty-three; for Rahu: zero, twenty-seven, and thirty-eight; then for Mars:
Ten, seven, and eight; for Mercury’s Anomaly: nine signs minus twenty-seven minutes; for Jupiter: seven, two, and sixteen.
For Venus’s Anomaly: seven, twenty, and nine; for Saturn: nine, fifteen, and twenty-one; these are the additive constants. || 8 ||
Eleven, nineteen... etc. The meaning is clear The verse uses coded number-words like 'Rudra' for 11 and 'Go' for 9. || 8 ||
For the Sun (Tapana): 11, 19, 41. For the Moon (Vidhu): 11, 19, 6. For the Apogee (Tunga): 5, 17, 33. For Rahu (Tamasi): 0, 27, 38. For Mars (Mahija): 10, 7, 8. For Mercury’s Anomaly (Jhakendra): 9 signs minus 27 minutes = 8|29|33|0. For Jupiter (Pujita): 7, 2, 16. For Venus’s Anomaly (Shaukra Kendra): 7, 20, 9. Finally, for Saturn (Shani): 9, 15, 21. These are the additive constants (kshepaka) in signs and degrees. || 8 ||
At the time this book was begun (1442 Saka Era equivalent to 1520 CE), the actual positions of the planets in signs and degrees were determined as the "additive constants" for each planet. Therefore, when the planets are calculated from the total elapsed days since the start of the book's era, the actual planets are found by adding these constants, as will be said later: "joined with its own additive." These constants should be understood as being listed here in signs, degrees, minutes, and seconds. — The Editor || 8 ||
The additive constants in signs and degrees are: Sun 11|19|41|0; Moon 11|19|6|0; Moon’s Apogee 9|5|17|33; Rahu 0|27|38|0; Mars 10|7|8|0; Mercury’s Anomaly (9 signs minus 27 minutes) 8|29|33|0; Jupiter 7|2|16|0; Venus’s Anomaly 7|20|9|0; and Saturn 9|15|21|0. || 8 ||
