Muhurta Ganapati Page 12 The hours Sanskrit: hora, a unit of time roughly equal to one hour pass in sequence starting from the lord of the day. || 15 || The Sun, Venus, Mercury, the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, and then Mars: in this specific order, the planetary lords of the Time-Hours are to be understood. || 16 || Whatever task has been declared by the ancient teachers as suitable for a specific day, that task will surely find success if performed during the corresponding hour of that planet. || 17 || Those defects Sanskrit: dosha, or astrological flaws which are said to exist during the day do not have power at night; however, some authorities say this rule specifically applies to the days of Saturn, Mars, and the Sun. || 18 ||
On the Sun's day Sunday, oil massage causes heat; on the Moon's day Monday, beauty; on Mars's day Tuesday, death; on Mercury's day Wednesday, prosperity. || 19 || On Jupiter's day Thursday, loss of wealth; on Venus's day Friday, misfortune; and on Saturn's day Saturday, happiness. || 20 || This is the effect of oil massage on men; of this, there is no doubt. One should not perform an oil massage on the days of the Sun or Mars, nor during the Vyatipata or Vaidhriti specific inauspicious astronomical yogas, nor during a solar transit Sankranti. || 21 || Nor should it be done on the sixth or eighth lunar days, during the Vishti period, or on festival days.
An oil massage causes no defect for one who performs it every single day, or during a festival, or for the treatment of "wind" diseases Sanskrit: vata-roga, such as arthritis or nerve pain, or when specifically prescribed. || 22 || By placing cow dung in the oil on Friday, earth on Tuesday, Durva grass on Thursday, and a flower on Sunday, the oil massage becomes free of defect. || 23 || Oil that has been consecrated with mantras, or is scented with flowers, or mixed with other substances, never causes any astrological defect. || 24 ||
Thus ends the Chapter on Days in the Muhurta Ganapati composed by Ganapati, son of the illustrious astrologer Ravala Harishankara Suri.
