Subtract one from the Sun’s sign The zodiac sign where the sun is currently positioned, subtract eight from the sign at the meridian The sign currently crossing the observer's celestial meridian, and subtract fifteen from the rising sign. Alternatively, divide by twenty original: "vanarva" according to the treatises. || 71 || The result gives the ghatis A unit of time equal to 24 minutes passed in the night, and the remainder gives the fractions of time. || 72 ||
Or alternatively:
Subtract fifteen from the Sun’s sign relative to the setting sign, subtract eight from the meridian sign, and subtract one from the rising sign. Divide these by twenty. || 73 || The result should be known in terms of planets and signs, and the remainder provides the precise calculation of the night. Subtract seven, eight, or nine according to the standards of setting and rising. This specific calculation for the meridian should be understood and applied by the wise. || 74 ||
A wise person should avoid the five constellations Nakshatras: lunar mansions used in Vedic astrology starting from Dhanishta Dhanishta, Shatabhisha, Purva Bhadrapada, Uttara Bhadrapada, and Revati for the following activities: traveling toward the south, preparing a bed or canopy, roofing a house, || 75 || erecting a pillar, cremating a corpse, and collecting grass or wood. In these five, the effects of birth, gain, death, or departure are multiplied fivefold. || 76 ||
The constellations are categorized as Blind, Dull-eyed, Middle-eyed, and Clear-eyed. These groups repeat in cycles of seven, starting from the constellation Rohini. || 77 ||
In a "Blind" constellation, there is swift gain; in a "Dull-eyed" one, the gain is fleeting. In a "Middle-eyed" constellation, the gain is like grain modest or average, but in a "Clear-eyed" constellation, there is no gain at all. || 78 ||
If an object is lost during a "Blind" constellation, it has gone East; if "Dull-eyed," it is in the South. If "Middle-eyed," it is in the West; and if "Clear-eyed," it is in the North. || 79 ||
The fifteen Muhurtas Muhurta: a period of 48 minutes are presided over by: Shiva, Ahirbudhnya, Mitra, the Ancestors, the Vasus, the Waters, the Universal Gods, Brahma, || 80 || Vidhi, Indra, Indra-Agni, the Rakshasa, Varuna, Aryaman, and Bhaga.
