The table above uses numerical shorthand for specific deities or stars governing the 15 divisions of the day and 15 divisions of the night.
...thus are declared the fifteen divisions of the day in sequence. The night-time MuhurtasA Muhurta is a unit of time lasting approximately 48 minutes. begin with Shiva, Jaya, and Ahirbudhnya. || 81 ||
The following verses list the presiding deities of these time segments.
Dhatri, Swati, Aditi, Jiva, Chitra, Tvashtri, and Maruta. A Muhurta is defined as one-fifteenth part of the duration of the day, and similarly for the night. || 82 ||
One should not perform any desired action during a time governed by a lord deity that is inimical to the purpose. However, during the midday period known as Abhijit, one may perform all auspicious works even if other faults are present, || 83 || except for traveling toward the southern direction. || 84 ||
Now, the Muhurtas to be avoided on Sunday and other days:
On Sunday, avoid Aryaman and Bhaga. On Monday, avoid Vidhi and Rakshasa. On Tuesday, avoid Pitrya and Agni. On Wednesday, avoid Abhijit. || 85 ||
On Thursday, avoid Rakshasa and Sarpa. On Friday, avoid Pitrya and Brahmi. On Saturday, avoid Raudra and Sarpa. These specific Muhurtas must be abandoned for auspicious works. || 86 ||
