The period of the current lunar mansion is to be calculated by the proportion of each lunar mansion.
Salutations to the Lord Ganesha. || Now, the sequence of periods arising from the lunar mansions is written according to the Yavanajataka An ancient Indian astrological text influenced by Greek/Yavana traditions. || Place the four cardinal directions, then three for each intermediate direction, and four for the center, following the sequence of the directions || 1 || The Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Saturn, the Ascendant, Jupiter, and Venus: the lords of the periods should be assigned in order to the cardinal and intermediate directions at birth || 2 || At the time of birth, the period begins from the first quarter of the day's lunar mansion. In the eastern lunar mansions, the periods and sub-periods are calculated || 3 || The Sun and Moon are 15, Mars is 7, Mercury and Saturn are 9, Jupiter is 9, Rahu and the Sun are 12, and Venus is 21 || 4 || Thus, the maximum lifespan is proclaimed by these periods. The elapsed time of the lunar mansion in minutes Nadikas; a unit of time equal to 24 minutes is multiplied by the period. This is divided by the total duration of the lunar mansion to find the years and other units already passed and those remaining to be experienced || 5 || Here, the minutes of the lunar mansion are taken from the beginning... The text becomes highly technical regarding the calculation of "bhukta" (elapsed) and "bhogya" (remaining) time ...the elapsed minutes are multiplied by one's own period. The meaning is that the elapsed minutes are to be divided by the total duration of the period || 5 || The period multiplied by the period should be divided by nine. The quotient is months; the remainder is multiplied by thirty and divided again || 6 || The quotient is days; the remainder is multiplied by sixty and divided. The quotient is minutes Ghatikas; the remainder is multiplied by sixty || 7 || Those are the seconds. Thus are the periods of the Sun and others in sequence. The Period, Sub-period, Inter-period, and Sub-sub-period: the astrologers know these to be fivefold || 8 || The Period, the Sub-period, the Inter-period, and the Subtle-period are declared as sixfold original: 6 by calculating the proportion of the current lunar mansion.
