Now begins the writing of the AshtakavargaLiterally "Eight-fold Class"; a system in Vedic astrology used to calculate the collective influence of the seven planets and the Ascendant on the twelve zodiac signs. according to the sequence of the natal chart. First, the Ashtakavarga is calculated from the Ascendant to the seventh house. From these eight-fold divisions, the specific signs and other factors are determined. The wise understand that unfavorable results arise from certain positions, while favorable results are indicated by the RekhasLiterally "lines" or "points"; these represent positive numerical values in an astrological chart.. These points should be placed separately for each zodiac sign and other divisions.
In the complete Ashtakavarga system, the maximum limit of points is as follows:
The total maximum limit of points when the Ascendant's Ashtakavarga is included is 349. In this individual Ashtakavarga, the points that arise according to the influence of the signs and planets must be rectified using the method of Trikona ShodhanaTriangular Reduction; a process of simplifying the points based on the three signs belonging to the same elemental group (Fire, Earth, Air, Water)..
The remaining points
Once this rectification is performed, the resulting points should be placed accordingly in each individual Ashtakavarga for the signs and planets. After the points have been cleared through the Triangular Reduction, they must be rectified again using the method of Ekadhipatya ShodhanaReduction based on "Lordship of Two Signs"; a further refinement of points for planets that rule two different zodiac signs.. The points that remain after the "Lordship of Two Signs" reduction are the final, purified Ashtakavarga points. It is from these points alone that the timing of planetary periods should be determined. The predictions based on the Ashtakavarga system depend entirely on these points and not on any other factors.
