Because these rituals are performed in dependence upon time kālāśraya, it is impossible to perform them if the time—such as the beginning of a fortnight and so on—is unknown. Indeed, this Science of the Luminaries Jyotiṣam An ink smudge in the manuscript obscures part of this word. is remembered as the Eye of the Veda. Its importance is centered in its role as the sight. It is said that even if one is joined with other limbs—like the ears, the nose, and so on—if one is devoid of a single limb the eye, they are ineffective in their own arrival.
Now, he explains that because it is a limb of the Veda, this science Jyotiṣma? The OCR is unclear here, likely referring to the brilliance or the study of Jyotiṣa. should be studied by the twice-born original: "dvijai"; referring to the social classes initiated into Vedic study. and not by others. He says:
"Therefore, this holy, secret, and supreme truth must be studied. A man who knows the Science of the Luminaries Jyotiṣa obtains the four goals of life: Virtue, Wealth, Pleasure original: "Dharma, Artha, Kāma", and Liberation, as well as clear fame."
Now, desiring to speak on the Treatise Siddhānta, which is the primary part of the Mathematical Branch Gaṇita-skandha of the science, he describes the Revolutions Bhagaṇa of the Zodiac Wheel Bha-cakra which is filled with planets.
This zodiac wheel was created by the Lotus-born original: "Kamalodbhavena"; an epithet for the creator-god Brahmā. along with the gods. It consists of the planetary revolutions and is joined with the various objects of the world. They speak of it thus: because he creates the universe, he is called the Universe-Maker original: "Viśvasṛj".
