By the stars, according to their own limbs specific parts or divisions of the constellations, in sequential order. From the results obtained for the two [stars], the calculation is twenty-two degrees. 11
For Ashwini and others, by twenty [units], the northern direction of the stars is determined on the celestial sphere. By means of indirect observation parokṣena, the vilepa celestial latitude, or distance from the ecliptic is calculated relative to the true position of the Sun. 12
Situated between Gemini and the beginning of Cancer, in the Southern celestial sphere, is the lord of the sphere: Agastya the star Canopus. For the star named Agastya, the Dhruvaka polar longitude; the point where the star's declination circle meets the ecliptic is in the third zodiac sign Gemini.
The star Lubdhaka Sirius, "the Hunter" is located in the sign of Gemini at the twentieth degree. This means the result obtained is twenty degrees within the second sign. By the power of the Southern [latitude], at twenty degrees, the knowledge of the Sun's passage is to be understood.
In the sign of Taurus Vṛṣa, [the stars] are located at the twenty-second degree. With a polar longitude of more than twenty-two degrees, the two [coordinates] for the fire-stars likely referring to Krittika or related bright stars are twenty [units] in the Northern direction.
