1. Body (Self), 2. Wealth, 3. Brother, 4. Friend, 5. Son, 6. Enemy, 7. Wife, 8. Death, 9. Virtue (Dharma), 10. Action (Career), 11. Gain, and 12. Loss. || 2 || 1
The signs beginning with Aries are, in order:
Odd and Even; Male and Female; Cruel and Gentle; and Movable, Fixed, and Dual-natured. || 3 || 1
The third house is called the "Place of Courage." The fourth is known as "Happiness," "Kinship," "The Underworld," and "The Foundation." The fifth is known as "Intellect." || 4 ||
The seventh house is remembered as the "Youthful," the "Sky-Point," the "Setting," and the "Partner." The tenth is the "Sky" and the "Middle." The eighth house is the "Chasm." || 5 ||
The eleventh is "Gain" and "All-around Auspiciousness." The twelfth is "Loss." The ninth and fifth are known as the "Trines." || 6 ||
The third, sixth, tenth, and eleventh houses are called the "Houses of Increase" Upachaya: houses where the influence of planets grows over time. The fourth and eighth houses are known by the wise as the "Square" Chaturasra. || 7 ||
The first, fourth, seventh, and tenth houses are known as the "Centers" Kendra or "Thorns" Kantaka. The houses following these are known as "Succeedent" Panaphara and "Cadent" Apoklima respectively.
