Secret Commonwealth original: "La Mancomunidad Secreta"; this refers to the hidden society or "republic" of supernatural beings that Kirk believed existed alongside the human world.

Robert Kirk (1644–1692) was a Scottish minister and folklorist. He is best known for this work, written in 1691, which attempted to provide a scientific and theological account of "Second Sight" and the inhabitants of the fairy realm.
