During the night, the calculation involves the rising times of the signs (Udaya) and the remaining portions of the Sun's movement in GhatisA traditional unit of time equal to 24 minutes.. //21// The elapsed time and the desired time in PalasA unit of time equal to 24 seconds; 60 palas make one ghati. should be subtracted in sequence. When the knowledge is equal, the fruit is full; in the middle, it is zero. Between the planet and the junction, the specific difference (Visheshaka) is found. //29// In the "descending" (Avarohi) state, the fruit is diminished at the junction of the primary planet. In the "ascending" (Aroha) state, the planet is strong; in the descending, it is middling. //30// Thus ends the Method for Calculating the Houses. The junction is the interval between planets in degrees and minutes. One should calculate the specific difference by the interval between the known position and the junction. //31// Thus ends the Specific Differences.

Now, the Ashtakavarga: A system of "Eight-fold Classification" used to determine the strength of planets based on their positions relative to other bodies.
From the Sun, the favorable positions are the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th. From the Moon, it is auspicious in the 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 11th.
