That deity likely referring to the Vastu Purusha or a specific directional deity brings wealth in the forest and auspiciousness in the home; success is attained through the proper ritual offerings. If the water-pot Kumbha is placed correctly, it brings happiness, but if not, it brings no such reward. ||36|| Immediately after these doors, the external areas should be desired; one should not perform rituals that are unheard of. If the King's path the main highway or royal road touches the house, it is said to be a defect; such a sight is not beneficial for the inhabitants. ||37|| In an old house, if a section is dilapidated, one should renovate it. By doing so, one attains a place in heaven. Just as a cow's horn or a steady flame does not flicker, so too should the king's glory remain unshaken in that place. ||38||
When the master of the house looks upon the entire palace, it should provide growth and satisfy the heart's desires. To the East, there may be enmity, but in the Northern direction, the placement of wealth or elephants is recommended. To the West, half-sight is prescribed, and in the Southern direction, one should look for wisdom and prosperity. ||39|| On the left side, wealth, objects, and new bonds of horses and women are found; but there is no wealth for those who do not follow the rules. In the forest of the king's enjoyment, one should establish the stables for cows and elephants on the left, while to the right, the places for buffaloes, goats, and rams should be situated. ||40||
The house of the gods and the musicians Gandharvas should be beautiful and well-sighted. One should conquer the mother's house the inner quarters with policy. If the temple of Truth and Dharma is established among the gods, the house of sorrow is defeated and the Goddess of Prosperity Shri resides there. ||41|| Thus ends the section on the Eastern directions.
The
In the middle of the houses, or in the designated place, a granary should be well-constructed. It should be bright and well-ventilated, appearing like the rays of the moon. ||42|| According to the ancient methods, the growth of the lineage occurs when the treasury is placed in the North.
Entry into the house
The hall for cows and the place for wandering should be in the corner; the birth-chamber and the kitchen should be placed with care. ||43|| To the East of that, the bathing place for the king should be situated, and likewise for the daughters. On the left side, the armory for the king's weapons should be made. Furthermore:
The umbrella, the fly-whisk Chauri, the idols, the teacher, and the bearer of the betel-nut Tambula should be placed to the South, or as directed by the moon and the stars. ||44||
A bed placed under the influence of the Sun and Moon is praised; the music room should be constructed according to the rules. The gathering place for good people should be in the East, while the great kitchen should be in the Southeast direction. ||45|| The Lord of the Earth should occupy the middle portion, having spread out in various ways. The work should be done according to the directions mentioned for the two types of births likely referring to the nobility or the twice-born. ||46||
The halls of the directions, the rituals to be performed, and the houses to be built in those directions should be moderate in size. To the South, the halls should be made according to the vision of the world, beautiful and well-measured. ||47||
Thus ends the fifth chapter, titled "The Description of the King's Enjoyment," in the Rajajagadvinoda by the illustrious Rajavardhana. ||5||
