On the Sixteen Types of Houses

The movement of the sun and the stars... original: "gāmi vategā" in the two-fold path of the mind. In the three kingdoms, the middle path is taken by those who know. One should understand the four-fold speech of the teacher the Guru which brings awakening and removes the exhaustion of the mind through steady patience. The beautiful and pleasing form of the goddess of fortune Shri is known by those who are firm. In this world of light, one should serve the One who is mixed with the light of the heavens. In both uneven and even meters, in the form of heavy and light syllables, that eternal word resides. ॥ 1-4 ॥

By this knowledge, one should perform the circumambulation of the Alinda a terrace or veranda, typically a raised gallery at the entrance of a house. Take these sixteen jewels of questions regarding the Griha the house or domestic dwelling as they were spoken by us in the ancient measures. ॥ 3 ॥

In the victory of grain and wealth, the best of sounds is the one that fulfills desires. In the world of water and earth, victory brings four-fold fruits known by thousands of names. ॥ 5 ॥ These are the sixteen syllables of the "Tikra" and others. ॥ 5 ॥

Through the increase of grain and victory, one should construct the Alinda joined with the divine protection. Following the lineage of Shridhara, the second achievement is the house of time, where bathing and rituals are performed with patience. ॥ 5 ॥ These are the eight-fold types. ॥ 1 ॥

All these, like the steady pole star, are beautiful and certain. They were spoken by the giver of boons as the source of happiness and Shiva meaning "auspicious" or "benign" in this context, rather than the deity alone. ॥ 6 ॥ All these are vast and expansive, like a woven garment of light.

In the eastern Alinda, in the pairs of the ten halls, the characteristics of the dwelling are seen. From there, to the north, one finds the constant joy of the bull Vrishabha, a symbol of stability and fertility, bringing happiness and bliss.

Their decoration follows the order of the sun and the moon. To the Lord of the world, the roar of the throat is offered like a golden peak. Without a house, victory and desire are lost; therefore, one should provide a dwelling. ॥ 10 ॥

Thus, the sixteen types of writing are established in the classes of houses, bringing existence, wealth, and beauty. Like a mark on the forehead tilaka, this brings playfulness, comfort, and fame. ॥ 11 ॥ Even in difficult times, the house provides protection for wealth and the earth. This has been spoken by the ancient seers who saw the truth. ॥ 12 ॥

These are the sixteen syllables beginning with "Prajava". ॥ 1 ॥ With the weight of the Alinda and the peaks of the house, the structure is raised toward the heavens. ॥ 13 ॥ It is vast and expansive.
