The two fortnights, the bright and the dark original: "shveta-asitau," referring to Shukla Paksha (waxing) and Krishna Paksha (waning), are associated with the gods and the ancestors respectively; they are considered auspicious for good works and inauspicious for others. After thoroughly examining many ancient texts, this work has been composed by Vitthala Dikshita. In this book titled The Desire-Granting Tree of Electional Astrology original: "Muhurta Kalpadruma", the chapter known as the "Flower of the Year" is now concluded. || 16 ||
Fire, the Creator, the Mountain-Daughter, the Lord of Hosts, the Serpent, the War-God, the Sun, the Lord, the Unattainable Goddess, Time, the All-Maker, the Sustainer, the Love-God, the Auspicious One, and the Moon; finally, the Ancestors are the lords of the lunar days. These correspond to the 15 days of the lunar fortnight: Agni, Brahma, Gauri, Ganesha, Shesha, Kartikeya, Surya, Shiva, Durga, Yama, Vishvadeva, Vishnu, Kamadeva, Shiva, and the Moon/Pitris. 1
The lunar days are categorized as Joyous, Prosperous, Victorious, Empty, and Full The five groups: Nanda, Bhadra, Jaya, Rikta, and Purna. In the bright fortnight, these are considered respectively blameworthy, mediocre, and highly recommended; in the dark fortnight, the effects are reversed. Furthermore, they become "Perfectly Accomplished" when they coincide with the days of Venus, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter. 2
A lunar day that exists during two consecutive sunrises, or one that does not touch a sunrise at all, is generally avoided. Specifically, the ninth lunar day is considered unfavorable, as are those lunar days that are stripped of the tenth day's influence. 3
For urgent and necessary actions, the initial hours term: "ghatika" (a unit of 24 minutes) of the lunar days must be avoided according to these counts: 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 14, 8, 9, 14, 25, 10, 5, 10, and 5. The remaining hours are considered auspicious. || 4 ||
