In the ninth division original: "navabhage," referring to the Navamsha or 1/9th division of a sign, if the lord of the rising sign is destroyed, one attains a state of sorrow. If the Moon’s portion is reached, one experiences the arrival of wealth and great majesty. ॥ 15 ॥ 17 When Mars is in its own sign or in the fourth house original: "ambodhe," literally 'ocean,' a technical term for the 4th house, one gains friends good and the arrival of wealth. If Jupiter is present, there is an increase in enjoyment; however, if the son of the Sun Saturn is in that portion, there is the destruction of activity and great sorrow. ॥ 16 ॥ If the rising sign is occupied by a planet that is fallen or in an enemy's division, even a person of high birth becomes like a commoner. If it is in a favorable house or division, one receives help and overcomes the strength of enemies. ॥ 17 ॥ It is said that in the twelfth division of the sign, one should predict matters of "bile" one of the three humors/doshas in Indian medicine. When the rising sign is in the twentieth division Vimshamsha, similar effects occur. ॥ 18 ॥

Chapter Nine of the Great Meditation: On the Distinctions of the Rising Signs

The Sun in the first house causes heat, sorrow, and disease. The Sun in the second house takes away wealth, honor, and strength. If Mars is aspected by the Earth-born Mars in the second house, it destroys enemies but causes quarrels with kinsmen and loss of wealth. ॥ 1 ॥ In the fifth house, it causes trouble to sons, but if in its own sign or exalted, it gives wealth. In the sixth, it brings the destruction of enemies. In the seventh, it causes quarrels with many wives and doubt regarding wealth. In the eighth house, the Sun causes death and disease. ॥ 2 ॥ In the ninth house, the Sun destroys religious merit but gives wealth; it makes one a performer of labor and known for traveling. In the eleventh house, it brings much gain from relatives and the arrival of wealth. ॥ 3 ॥ The Moon in the rising sign causes bodily quarrels and sorrow if it is not full; if it is full and in a friendly sign, it gives speed and strength. In the fourth house, it gives increase, enjoyment, and wealth, but if afflicted, it causes the loss of friends. ॥ 4 ॥ Now, the combinations for the tenth house: it causes sorrow regarding children and creates enmity with friends; there is no happiness

in the sixth house. ॥ 5 ॥ These are the effects of the wealth-giving planets; if they are in the eighth house, they cause destruction of work and bring sorrow and death. The Sun in the ninth house makes one perform deeds, but unless it is stable, there is no increase. In the rising sign, one attains lordship, happiness, and gain of wealth, but in the twelfth house 12th house, there is fear of loss and expense. ॥ 6 ॥ When Mars is in the rising sign, there is knowledge, fire, and the arrival of weapons or harsh speech; one becomes a seeker of wealth. In the third house, one attains cattle and wealth, but in the fourth house, it causes the destruction of kinsmen and fear of enemies born of delusion. ॥ 7 ॥ Mars in the fifth house causes trouble to sons; in the sixth house, it quickly destroys enemies. In the eighth house, it causes loss of wealth, disease, and fear of death. ॥ 8 ॥ In the ninth house, Mars is auspicious for religious duties, but otherwise, it gives poor results. In the eleventh house, it gives success in wealth and arrival of power; in the twelfth, it causes much loss. ॥ 9 ॥ In the rising sign, Mercury the planet brings increase of wealth and victory. In the second house, it gives wealth and Venus brings all types of pleasures. In the third house, one gains a lover and strength over enemies. In the fourth house the fourth, one gains helpers and wealth. In the fifth house, the arrival of sons is expected, but if Mercury is joined with the Sun, there may be some distress. ॥ 10 ॥ In the seventh house, one obtains excellent clothes and wealth through Mercury; however, some say if it is joined with the Sun, it causes distress. Leo In the ninth house, there is an increase in religious merit and the fulfillment of desired success.
