Arishta-kandam: A chapter dealing with planetary combinations that portend ill-health, misfortune, or death.

Afflictions in Childhood.

Balarishta: Specifically refers to astrological "evils" or health risks affecting infants and young children.

(1) If the bright Moon and the Sun original: "Parasan" are joined together in the 12th or 8th house from the ascendant, and if they are in the same lunar day original: "Tithi", the strength of the Moon is diminished. In such a state, if they occupy the 8th house, a severe affliction original: "Kandam" exists. By the decree of fate, a great danger will manifest within two years.

(2) If Saturn original: "Mandhai" and Mars original: "Sei" are joined together in a house, that place is harmed. If they are in the opposite house, a certain fire or fever will occur. If they aspect look upon the 4th, 3rd, 8th, or 10th houses, consider it a fatal affliction that will occur within twelve months.

If Rahu the shadow planet, original: "Aravakkari" is positioned on the right, that place is harmed. It will cause the lineage to diminish and the household to suffer. The evil results of this will be seen in the twelfth year; it will bring sorrow like a flood, causing much distress to one's existence.
