A detailed woodcut illustration shows an armillary sphere. This is a model of the objects in the sky. It is partially hand colored with red ink. The central globe of the Earth is surrounded by several interlocking rings. These include the vertical meridian, the horizontal horizon, and the celestial equator. The two tropics, Cancer and Capricorn, are visible along with the two polar circles. A broad, diagonal band represents the zodiac. It is divided into degrees and labeled with the names of the signs. The entire sphere is mounted on a stand. Two thick, twisted columns support the sphere on a rectangular base. The outermost meridian ring is marked in degrees from 10 to 90 in each quadrant. The horizon ring is also marked and labeled. The labels identify various celestial coordinates and features.
